Paddles: broad and satisfying
Paddles offer a broad, easy-to-see contact surface and can be relatively straightforward to control. Construction varies widely: leather, synthetic materials, wood, silicone and layered designs all produce different weight, stiffness and durability. Check edges, joins, handle security and whether the surface can actually be cleaned as described.
Floggers: movement and rhythm
A flogger uses multiple falls attached to a handle, creating a very different sense of movement and rhythm. The number, length, width, material and weight of those falls affect handling. Buyers should pay attention to the attachment point between the falls and handle because poor construction there can become the failure point.
Crops: compact and precise
Crops typically have a flexible shaft and a smaller tip or keeper. Handle grip, shaft straightness, tip construction and overall length matter. Because the contact area is smaller than a broad paddle, do not assume that “small” means mild.
Canes: sharper and less forgiving
Canes are narrow and flexible, with material, diameter and length strongly affecting handling. They are a more advanced choice, so we will only recommend products with clear specifications and credible construction quality.
