Silicone
Silicone is common in premium flexible toys because it can produce smooth, soft-touch surfaces and can be manufactured in many shapes and firmness levels. The word “silicone” alone does not tell you the exact formulation, cure method, coating, hardness or whether the whole product is silicone rather than a silicone exterior over another structure.
ABS plastic
ABS is a rigid thermoplastic widely used in consumer products. In adult products it is often used for hard shells, handles, controls and rigid stimulation surfaces. Its practical advantages can include low weight, dimensional stability and easy-to-clean smooth surfaces when the finish is intact.
Borosilicate glass
Quality glass products are rigid, smooth and easy to inspect for chips or cracks. Buyers should distinguish products specifically identified as borosilicate or otherwise designed for intimate use from anonymous decorative glass with unclear composition or quality control. Inspect glass before each use and retire damaged pieces.
Stainless steel
Stainless-steel products are rigid, heavy and durable when properly manufactured. “Stainless steel” is still a broad material description rather than a complete specification: grade, finish quality, welds and geometry matter. Weight is part of the use experience and can be a disadvantage for people with grip, dexterity or fatigue limitations.
Porous vs non-porous: use the term carefully
Online adult-product content often treats “porous” and “non-porous” as simple binary labels. In practice, surface condition, coatings, joins, seams and damage affect cleanability. Feeling Adult will describe the actual material and manufacturer cleaning instructions rather than promising that any material is inherently “perfectly hygienic.”
What to inspect before buying
- Is the material identified precisely, or only with vague terms such as “body-safe blend”?
- Are cleaning instructions published?
- Are there seams, joints, texture or charging ports that complicate cleaning?
- Is the water-resistance rating stated and does it match the cleaning method?
- Is there a warranty and an identifiable manufacturer?
- For insertable products, are dimensions and retrieval/flared-base features clearly stated where relevant?
Care is product-specific
Do not boil, bleach, dishwasher-clean or submerge a product merely because its surface material might tolerate that treatment. Electronics, adhesives, motors, coatings and seals may not. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the complete product.
